The Best and Fairest Trophy is awarded to the the most valuable player of each grade for a given season - the club champion of each side fielded.
Each week, first, second and third preference votes - for three, two and one point - are voted by an impartial and anonymous member selected at random who watched the game. From this, a weekly award is then presented that Saturday night for First Best and Fairest - essentially best on ground, Second Best and Fairest, and Third Best and Fairest, based on these given votes.
Each round's voting is recorded to eventually be tallied in a public ceremony at the Best and Fairest Count at the conclusion of the football year, when the Best and Fairest footballer of the entire season is decided. In the case of a tie, a countback is employed to separate the winner from his Runner Up by deferring to the most first preference votes, and if necessary, subsequently to second preference votes. The Runner Up is also presented with an annual trophy and in bygone years a trophy was sometimes given to the player who finished third.
Our most celebrated player - Eddie Schwerdt, holds the record for the most Best and Fairest awards - totalling seven A Grade trophies (and two as Runner Up) during his illustrious 180 game career between 1986 and 1996.
The Modifieds and Little League programs were first established in 2007. By design, the non-compettitive and participatory nature of the Modifieds sees no formal trophies ever awarded in this grade, however the Aaron Bevis Trophy is presented to the best and fairest player in the Litle League. |
